The Wonderful Uses of Hemp!

Hemp is the most amazingly versatile plant on the planet. You can eat it (in many different forms), wear it (in any season), write on and with it (with different kinds of utensils and paper products), and even decorate and build your home with it! It can easily be grown without pesticides and still produces three times more fibres than a cotton field and four times more paper than a forest!

Hemp has been a native plant in many cultures for centuries. It grows in different climates and can reach a height of four metres in 100 days, while improving the soil in the process. Hemp is the perfect plant for fibres and fabrics, providing the most durable of these. It is three times more tear-proof than cotton, super-absorbent, anti-bacterial, stain resistant and great for sensitive skin, as no chemicals needed in its production means no toxins touch your skin.

Hemp paper can be made using less chemicals and less energy than wood paper, and in better quality, giving it the wonderful ability to be recycled more than twice as often.  In addition to fabrics, building materials, paper, jewelry, rope, soaps, and fuel, hemp yields a very valuable oil. Hemp oil, being made of hemp seed, provides over 20% proteins and essential fatty acids (an excellent source for pure vegetarians) without saturated fats.

Hemp provides cures from many ailments such as pains of all kinds, spasms, headaches, nausea, and stomach problems. It is an ancient cure and was once readily prescribed for these because it provided relief without dangerous side effects.

What Does Hemp Mean to Mamas & Papas?

Hemp is the ideal plant for earth-friendly families. It makes the perfect diaper (as it's anti-bacterial and automatically aids in preventing diaper rash), is super durable (and use-it-on-your-next-kid friendly!) and is stain resistant (perfect for those messy little rascals)!! Hemp keeps you cool on hot days and warm on cold days because it's super breathable and can be made into all sorts of different fabrics from linens to silks. If you or your children have sensitive skin, hemp makes a great alternative. It doesn't need much to prosper (no chemicals or pesticides!) and you can use hemp soaps & wear hemp clothing.

What Can You Do to Help?

Save our ozone friendly trees and support the production of hemp by using hemp products in your own home. The price of natural fabrics and goods will only drop when there is enough of a demand for it, and this will help spread the word to others as well. Sign a petition to legalize the growth of industrial hemp (which contains little or no THC content; the "drug" of the marijuana plant) in our own country to support our agriculture business and lower the importing costs for our manufacturers. When we begin with our own families and homes then together we can make a change in our communities, countries, and our planet.

Organic Cotton

The Real Deal on Growing Conventional Cotton

Conventional farming uses pesticides, fungicides (harmful chemicals used to keep fungus from spreading in the non-organic processing and transportation of natural products), and herbicides (harmful irritating chemicals used to destroy “weeds”). In fact, cotton uses close to 23% of the world’s insecticides while using 3% of the cropland! It takes 1/3 of a pound of chemicals to grow enough cotton for one t-shirt (see the Sustainable Cotton Project for more details on these facts).

And then, the Good News!

Organic cotton on the other hand, has NONE of the above toxins or statistics to mar its pristine reputation! “OG” Cotton can be color-grown (yes! cotton can naturally grow in colors!) therefore skipping the extremely dangerous dioxins used to bleach cotton (even when its going to be dyed) and not contributing to the poisonous chemicals that end up as waste after the cotton has been dyed into a dark color.

Keep it real and natural! Avoid skin irritations and allergens contained in chemically grown fibres. Support small families and village farmers that uphold higher standards in the production of their products, who care for their communities and their environment. As the demand for more real natural fibre products increases, so, too, will the supply, and we will all benefit from a happier, healthier earth (and lower prices, too)!
